A Beautiful Nightmare

A Beautiful Nightmare

A narrative ballet about a young girl dreaming that her windup toy dolls come to life in the middle of the night. When the young girl climbs into bed she begins to windup her doll before she falls asleep. As soon as she begins to dream the dolls begin their “battle for the key”. In this dream world there are two types of dolls: 1) moving freely and 2) frozen in time by their keys. If the freely moving dolls can capture the key of the beloved princess doll, she will come to life and free the rest of the dolls frozen in time. Once all of the dolls are free, they dance with joy all through the night, but as soon as the sun begins to rise, they must appear to be in their frozen states again. For they do not want to be discovered alive by the young girl when she wakes up. As the young girl stirs awake, she sees the dolls stiffly scampering about and she cannot believe her eyes. She rubs her eyes in disbelief and suddenly they’re as still as they were when she fell asleep. Just as soon as she convinces herself it was just a beautiful nightmare the toy solider tips his hat to her and appears frozen in time again.

Music – Michael Jackson's "Little Susie" performed by Christian Rossle.
