Amen

Amen

Amen

An ambitious interpretation of Alvin Ailey’s most notable work “Revelations”. Modeled after Ailey’s spiritual dance suite design, Amen is a 10 minute piece divided into four vignettes set almost entirely to gospel. A contemporary modern dance piece infused with balletic elements loosely narrating the church going experience, Amen is not intended to replicate Ailey’s ballet but instead pay homage to it. I had been in awe of Ailey’s “Revelations” from the first time I witnessed it as a freshman in high school. I knew then that one day I wanted to have the same effect on another young impressionable dancer like myself. It was in that instance that I became certain that dancing and making dances would become my life’s work. Amen ultimately propelled my professional choreographic venture.

Music – "Little Susie" by Michael Jackson, "We Fall Down" by Donnie McClurkin, "Fix Me Jesus" by Katherine Battle, "I Need You Now" by Smokie Norful, and "When I Think About Jesus" by Kirk Franklin.
